Privacy - Fueled and Schooled

This page covers two things, and it helps to keep them apart: this website, and the app, which beta families are using now while it’s still being built. Where something is a promise rather than a fact about today, we say so.

This website

There are no ads, no advertising trackers, and no visitor statistics on this site. We don’t know how many pages you read or where you came from. That’s on purpose: if we’re asking you to trust us with your children’s school records, we shouldn’t start by watching you.

Two other companies help us run this site, and that’s all:

Our web host, which keeps the standard logs every website keeps, including your internet (IP) address, to keep the site safe and running.
Google Fonts, which supplies the lettering you see here. Loading it means Google sees your internet address. If you’d rather it didn’t, a font-blocking browser add-on changes nothing but how the letters look.

Today this site doesn’t use cookies. Whether you picked light or dark mode is remembered in your own browser and never leaves your device. Once you can sign in to your account here, the site will need a cookie to keep you logged in securely, and this page will be updated to say so.

The beta form

When you ask to join the beta, we keep what you type in:

Your email address.
Your first name, if you give it.
How you homeschool and how you travel, using the options on the form.
Your children’s age ranges — never their names, never their birthdays.
The areas you expect to travel in.
Any places you tell us about, and anything you write in the open boxes.

We use it to run the beta: to decide who to invite and when, to keep the waiting list in order once the beta is full, to build the library of places, and to email you when there’s something to try or a spot opens. We don’t sell it, rent it or share it with advertisers, and we never send you anyone else’s marketing. Every email we send lets you unsubscribe, and if you ask us to delete your information, we delete it — just write to support@fueledandschooled.app.

We ask for age ranges instead of details about each child on purpose. Right now we have no reason to know more than that, so we don’t ask.

The app

The app keeps what you put into it: your household’s setup answers, each child’s name and birthday, what you log, and the photos and recordings you choose to save to a child’s record. It’s stored with Supabase, our database host, in your family’s own private space.

A few things go elsewhere, only when you use the feature that needs them:

Writing lessons. The AI that writes the words, Anthropic’s Claude, is told each child’s first name, age and what they’re working on, plus where you’ll be and anything you’ve asked lessons to plan around, such as an allergy. Never a last name, a birthday or a photo of your child.
The Field Lens. The photo you point it at goes to the same AI for one answer and isn’t kept, by it or by us.
Weather, historic places, churches and books. To look these up, the app sends the location of a stop to public services — the National Weather Service, Wikidata and Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap, Project Gutenberg — with nothing about who you are.
Your calendar is read on your phone, only if you turn it on. What leaves the phone is when you’re busy over the coming week, shared with your household so both parents see it — and an event’s title only if you choose to share titles. The app never adds to your calendar or changes it.

Your children’s privacy

This website is meant for parents, not children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under thirteen through it. This follows COPPA, the U.S. law that protects children’s privacy online.

Here’s how the app protects your family. These aren’t just policies we promise to follow — they’re built into how the app works, so they hold even if someone makes a mistake.

Your children stay inside your family. No one outside your family can see anything about your children unless you choose to share a specific thing — and you can take it back at any time. The app checks this every time it opens your family’s information, and we test it automatically every time we change the app.
Your children’s information never trains AI — not ours, and not anyone else’s. When AI helps write a lesson, it sees a first name and an age, and that’s all it sees of who your child is.
No ads aimed at your children, and no ads based on what you do — for anyone in your family.
Where you’ve been stays in your family. Location in the background is off unless you turn on Road Moments or drive-past alerts for historic places. Then your phone watches for the places itself: where you are is worked out on the phone and isn’t sent to us or stored. The app works fine without it.
Access for grandparents or sitters can be limited and can run out. You choose which children they can see and what they can do, and you can set an end date. Once it passes, their access stops right away.
There’s a record of who looked at what. Every time someone opens your family’s information, or is given access to it, that’s written down, because these are your children’s official school records.
You can take everything with you. Account settings has a download of everything your family has recorded, whenever you want it. Printable documents and photos will join it.
Deleting your account is real. You ask in Account settings. Your family’s records are held, read-only, for sixty days in case you change your mind, and then deleted for good.

What we will never do

Sell or rent your information, or your children’s.
Show you or your children ads based on what you do.
Use your child’s work, photos or records to train AI.
Let a stranger find, search for or contact your child.

Changes

If anything important on this page changes, we’ll put the date here and email everyone on the beta list. If we ever start collecting more than we do now, we’ll tell you plainly, not bury it in a general update.
