We are looking for about a hundred families to help build the thing we cannot build alone: a library of real places, documented by people who actually stopped at them.

  • The records portal and transcript generation.
  • Shared outings between households.
Which means: there is nothing to install today. Joining puts you on the list and lets you start contributing places now. We will write when there is something to try, and not on a schedule.
What we ask of you

Four things, none of them onerous.

  1. Tell us about places. The ones worth stopping at, what worked for which ages, where a big rig can actually park. Start on the form below.
  2. Use it badly. Take it somewhere with no signal for a week. Log the same outing from two phones. Close the app mid-upload. The failures we cannot reproduce in a driveway are the ones that matter.
  3. Tell us when it is wrong. Particularly when a generated lesson is condescending, mistimed, or does not fit the child it was written for.
  4. Be patient with a work in progress. Things will break. We will say so when they do.

Not a launch promotion. You are seeding the library that makes this worth paying for, and it would be indefensible to charge you more than the people who arrive after it is finished.

Credit on the places you contribute

Nominations are reviewed by a person before they enter the gazetteer — and the family who found the place is recorded against it.

Beta email goes to the people building this, and the questions on the form get read first.

The form

Five minutes, and the middle section is the useful one.

Everything except your email address is optional. We ask about children in age bands and never by name or birthdate — see what we do with all of this.

1 · Who you are

Bands, not birthdays. We ask because a family with an infant exercises a completely different path through the engine than one with a twelve-year-old, and we want both in the beta. We never ask for names or dates of birth here.

However you would say it — “Texas and the desert southwest” is fine.

So we know which import to build next.

2 · Places worth stopping for (optional, and the most useful thing on this form)

Open public data gives us every national and state park on day one. What no dataset contains is the mining museum with the volunteer who lets children hold the ore, or which visitor centre has a changing table. Tell us one you love and it becomes a real entry in the library, credited to you.

Be specific and be blunt. This field shapes what gets built next more than anything else on the form.
